Feeling pretty awful today, so this will be quick. Pale Rider is Clint Eastwood’s 1985 western starring himself and Michael Moriarty. It was the highest grossing western if the ’80s, but isn’t as well remembered today as Eastwood’s other westerns.
Michael Moriarty plays a gold miner, who along with a few others, is being harassed by a powerful miner in the area.
Eastwood shows up and decides to help the miners from the bad guy and his thugs.
The evil miner sends for a crooked marshall to take care of Eastwood and the miners. The marshall and his deputies (including perennial bad guy Billy Drago) arrive to set up the final showdown.
All of this comes to a classic western ending.
Pale Rider is a solid Eastwood western, but is overlooked now. It might be because during the ’80s he was doing more action and drama and this only western of the ’80s. People think of his ’60s and ’70s westerns and then of course, Unforgiven, which cane out in ’92, but seem to forget about this one.
This is easily one of my favorite Eastwood westerns, and I hope more people give it a shot.
